After running a number of scenarios, the tests showed that Apple Maps was up to five times more data efficient than Google Maps.

This is a big difference. While Apple Maps may not be up to par with Google Maps yet, there already have been improvements and I’m sure we will see the competition drive both services to be better.

I must say I’ve really enjoyed the vector map tiles as they pan and zoom in a more fluid manner while at the same time using less data.
